A full house of more than 40 business owners, human resources professionals, and operations managers met this morning to learn how to prepare their company for the new “Paid Sick Leave” laws that take effect January 1, 2018.
The major change impacting businesses is that paid sick leave must be provided to all nonexempt employees at a rate of at least 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked. This accrual rate applies to both part time and full time employees. The law also allows employees to use their sick leave beginning on the 90th calendar day after the start of employment.
