The Yakima Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) will host a seminar on pre-employment background screening and legality from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 17 at the Hilton Garden Inn located at 401 East Yakima Avenue in Yakima.
Washington’s new “Ban-the-Box” bill was signed into law as The Fair Chance Act on June 7, 2018. The new law makes it illegal for public and private employers to ask job applicants about arrests or convictions until after the applicant is determined otherwise qualified. In this workshop, we will dive deep into the regulatory landscape that governs pre-employment background screening. From the application to the offer, to the decision to hire; attendees will learn what they need to know to protect the rights of the applicant while protecting themselves from costly litigation.
Cost to attend is $50 per person for SHRM members; $60 for non-SHRM members; and $40 for college students (must show current ID). Registration and prepayment is required. Breakfast is included. Seating is limited so early registration is suggested. Sign up online at yakimashrm.org and click on the events tab, or click this link.
